STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM - US NORTHEAST - VICTORY BASIN, VT

Victory Basin is one of the few remaining wilderness areas in the State of Vermont. Nestled in the Northeast Kingdom's rolling hills, and bisected by a beautiful winding river, the basin is a maze of bogs, beaver flows and boreal forest. In addition to an array of rare plants, its extensive softwood timber stands are home to a bustling population of wildlife, including deer and moose. Shortly after acquiring 2,600 acres of land in Victory Basin in 1993, the Hancock Timber Resource Group began working with The Nature Conservancy and the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation to ensure that these sensitive lands would be preserved for future generations. This was accomplished in 1996 when The Nature Conservancy facilitated the sale and transfer of ownership to the state, thus consolidating its ownership in Victory Basin and ensuring the future protection of the watershed area.
