Teal Slough Teal Slough is a magnificent coastal
stand of old-growth western redcedar. This 331-acre forest and salt
marsh supports a diverse wildlife population including the marbled
murrelet, northern spotted owl, amphibians, Roosevelt elk and a
host of waterfowl and shorebird species. The Hancock Timber Resource
Group recognized the significance of preserving this vital estuary,
and with funding from The Nature Conservancy and The Paul G. Allen
Forest Protection Foundation in 1999, and through cooperation of
the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Teal Slough will become part of
the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge.
