PHILOSOPHY - ESTABLISHING NEW FORESTS |

Establishing New Forests to Capture New Investment Opportunities |

There is a growing recognition that forests provide a range of environmental and ecological services such as carbon sequestration--the process through which carbon dioxide is absorbed and stored by living systems such as forests. Forests and forest soils contain up to three times as much carbon as the atmosphere, and this carbon pool must be managed carefully. Establishing new forests and better managing our existing forests can also contribute to removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Carbon sequestration can be linked to our timber investment model to enhance already attractive investment fundamentals. For example, forests re-established on certain marginal agricultural land can provide carbon sequestration benefits as they grow, and then can be managed for a limited harvesting of forest products. This optimizes both carbon storage and timber product revenue. |
