Commercial Real Estate/ Forest Economist - Boston, Massachusetts Primary responsibilities include financial analysis of the timberland investment business relative to real estate investments, and the application of real estate investment research to the timberland investment arena. Responsibilities also include maintaining economic and financial data, providing investor support through on-going analysis of timber investment parameters, and responsive research generated by client requests. The candidate will be responsible for publishing research results via presentations at conferences and professional meetings, including writing articles for professional journals and our quarterly Hancock Timberland Investor. The successful candidate is likely to have an advanced degree in economics, real estate/forest economics, business or finance and at least five years of relevant work experience in a finance-related position. Prior experience and working knowledge conducting real estate and economic research is required. Applicant should possess strong quantitative, analytical, and written/oral communication skills, and a record of published research. A working knowledge of Excel and Access is required, as is a strong understanding of statistical data analysis. Experience with Crystal Ball risk analysis and econometric software is beneficial. Business Systems Analyst - Updated April 2008 - Boston, Massachusetts Primary responsibility is to help implement needed business systems applications. Responsibilities include working with business representatives to understand business requirements and interpret them into functional specifications. Working with SQL and VB tools to develop user interfaces and/or modify reports is expected. Qualifications include a broad knowledge of report development and Data Warehousing, familiarity with business requirements, design documents, flowcharts, test plans, etc., and an understanding of a structured System Development Life Cycle methodology. The ideal candidate will have experience using the SQL Reporting and Crystal Reports tools, Systems Software Design, and financial services experience. A suitable background includes undergraduate degree(s) in relevant field (e.g., investment services, computer science, business administration, finance) and several years of work experience in systems development. Effective analysis, writing, and speaking abilities are critical. Coordinator, Land Sales and Appraisals - Charlotte, North Carolina Responsible for providing oversight and implementation of land sales and appraisal functions for North and South American investments. Assist with all phases of related disposition projects, including implementation of strategic plans, purchase price development, management of sales marketing effort, contract negotiations, client and internal committee approvals, communication with buyers and closing attorneys, and eventual closing procedures. Assist with implementation and review of property appraisals, including management of process from initial bidding of work to final appraisal review and liaison with clients and auditors. Support deployment and development of database systems pertaining to appraisals and land sale reports. Assist with providing oversight of external brokerage firms where utilized. Coordinate efforts to achieve inventory and mapping needs for sales plans.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Forestry or Business, and five years progressive experience in forest management, timberland real estate, and investment planning. Must also have experience with (a) land records, timberland appraisal, and contract negotiations; and (b) assessing underlying real estate value on forestlands in investment regions of North America.
